If you’re looking for a breathtakingly beautiful and unique place to visit in the United States, Jackson Hole should be at the top of your list. Nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, this picturesque valley is home to some of the most stunning scenery in the country. Or, if you’re looking to stay in town, there are plenty of shops, restaurants, and art galleries to explore. And in the winter, the area transforms into a winter wonderland, with plenty of opportunities for skiing, snowboarding, and other winter activities. 

If you want to ski while staying in your van on a budget, Jackson Hole isn’t the best option. However, there are plenty of methods to have fun in this breathtaking spot while remaining on budget. That’s why we’ve created this van living guide for parking requirements, amenities, and everything else you may need when visiting Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Where Can I Park My Van in Jackson, Wyoming?

Parking your van in Jackson can be a challenge, as the town is quite small and has limited spaces. However, there are a few options for van parking in Jackson Hole, both free and paid.

It is free to park on most public streets within the Jackson for up to 72 hours during summer months, though in certain areas, time restrictions apply. Overnight parking on the streets isn’t allowed during winter months. 

Downtown Jackson parking is one of the best options, but you’re typically limited to 7’ clearance for your vehicle. Overnight parking is allowed for up to 48 hours at the public parking garage at the intersection of Milward and Simpson. Some additional free lots in Jackson include:

  • Home Ranch parking Lot
  • Miller Park
  • Deloney
  • Stilson Lot, and 
  • The Center for Arts parking lot. 

These lots will typically lend you a night or two of uninterrupted parking, but up to a week, and you may be asked to move or at least approached with questions.

The Stilson lot is our hands-down choice. It’s a commuter lot for employees, but you have to pay $2.50 each way from Jackson on the bus or park nearby. The Stilson lot is free, and the shuttle will pick you up from there for free as well. You need to drive halfway and take advantage of one of the many modes of free public transportation the rest of the way.

Amenities for Van Living in Jackson, Wyoming

Jackson’s got you covered with plenty of amenities for van living, including grocery stores, laundromats, showers, and more.

  • Grocery Stores – Albertsons, Jackson, Whole Grocer
  • Laundromats – Jackson Laundromat, Missing Sock
  • Showers – Teton Rec Center ($4.50-$7.00/day for non-residents). The rec center offers a wide range of activities, including a pool, hot tub, sauna, and more.

Restaurants and Nightlife in Jackson Hole

For a town of only 10,000 people, Jackson Hole sure packs a punch regarding nightlife and dining options. From cozy breakfast spots to happy hour hot spots and late-night dance clubs, there’s something for everyone in Jackson Hole.

  • The Bunnery Bakery & Restaurant – Cozy spot serves traditional American breakfast plus sandwiches, baked goods & desserts such as pie
  • Persephone Bakery – Chic French nook with artisanal bread, pastries & coffee, plus select light fare & outdoor seating.
  • Roadhouse Pub and Eatery – Half-price beers from 4-6 pm. 
  • Pinky G’s –  Slice of pizza and a tall boy domestic for like $4. 
  • Cowboy Coffee – Downtown location and a drive-through between Jackson and the ski hill. The coffee is reasonably priced and very good.

Hiking in Jackson, WY

Hiking in Jackson Hole is a must – there are so many trails to explore, and the scenery is unbeatable. Here are a few of our favorite hikes in Jackson Hole:

  • Teton Crest Trail – 25.7-mile point-to-point trail near Teton Village, Wyoming. It is considered a difficult path because it typically takes 13 h 17 min to finish.
  • The Teton Village Wildflower Trail to Gondola Summit – 8.0-mile out-and-back trail in the hills above Teton Village, Wyoming. It’s a difficult trek and takes approximately 5h 11 min to finish. 
  • Death Canyon to Patrol Cabin – 9.1-mile out-and-back trail near Jackson, Wyoming. It’s considered a somewhat difficult trek that takes an average of 4 hours 51 minutes to finish. 
  • Moose Ponds Trails – 3.2-mile loop trail in and around Jackson, Wyoming. It is generally considered a moderate trek that takes approximately 1 hour and 4 minutes to complete.

For those who want to explore beyond the trails, there are plenty of other outdoor activities to enjoy in Jackson Hole. Take a scenic drive down the Snake River Canyon or go for a horseback ride through Grand Teton National Park. You can also go whitewater rafting, fly fishing, or rock climbing. And in the winter, there’s more than an ample amount of skiing and snowboarding.
